Aquaculture Subsidies

Aquaculture subsidies - is an economic policy which involves the governemnt subsidising the cultivation of freshwater and saltwater populations (fish, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic plants, algae, and other organisms) under controlled conditions.

This policy would of course would please capitalists and farmers, grow farmer membership and income with decreasing food price. Furthermore, the interesting thing is at medium to high levels, it would reduce the water shortage as water is already present and itโ€™s livestock require less food to raise them.

However, this system is at the mercy of the environment. Its perks would gradually dip and become less fruitful if the environmental quality is low.

On lower funding there would be habitat degradation and waste which harms the environment but would later start improving the environment the farther we distance our farms away from land.Making the theresholds something like this:
Land-based farms > Both land-based and freshwater farms > Costal farms > Deep sea farms

The realm of fisheries and aquaculture is frequently uncharted in Democracy 4. Personally, I think the addition of aquaculture gives more depth and options for combatting the food shortage, water shoratge and nurturing the environment in a dynamic way. If we have vertical farms lets us have aquaculture as well. Please do consider it.

Iโ€™d disagree with it pleasing Capitalists. If it was subsidised in the form of Tax Relief and so forth, then Iโ€™d say that makes sense, but Subsidies in the form of government money going to prop-up an industry would be a distortion of the free market and the creation of a state-dependence, which they certainly wouldnโ€™t like.

But otherwise, I think this is a good idea! It could maybe be partnered with a form of Quota system, where higher quotas gives a better GDP boost and lower food prices, whereas lower quotas protects the environment more.

Thank you for the feedback! It would actually make much more sense if is tax relief so as to keep the integrity of the free market. Thanks a bunch!

Iโ€™d say to reduce complexity, itโ€™d be best to just have a generalized fishing policy.
