Exactly what it says in the title. This thread is exclusively for bugs that have an existing workaround, and only for the beta 1.15. Please don’t post here unless you are contributing an otherwise unrepresented fix, or are reporting an issue with one of the fixes themselves. This thread will cease being updated once beta 1.15 is gone.
CRASH WHILE LOADING BATTLE
PROBLEM: After clicking the ‘fight’ button, the game will show the loading screen, only for it to stop before 100% while caching a particular class of ship. Alt-tabbing gives an error message that states the game “failed to write” said class of ship.
SOLUTION: Right-click on the .exe and select “run as administrator”.
PROBLEM: In-battle, ships will cast rectangles as shadows regardless of their actual shape.
SOLUTION: (Note: only works if the ‘crash while loading battle’ bug occurred prior to first witnessing the rectangular shadows) Go to Documents -> My Games -> GratuitousSpaceBattles2, and delete the folder called ‘composites’. Then, when next initiating a battle, make sure you are running the game as an administrator.
GAME CRASHES IN MULTI-MONITOR MODE
PROBLEM: While in multi-monitor mode, fullscreen mode was applied. From then on, the screen will be black, and clicking results in crashing. Any further attempt to run the game causes it to crash again.
SOLUTION: Go to Documents -> My Games -> GratuitousSpaceBattles2, and delete prefs.ini. Multi-monitor mode is fullscreen by itself, so fullscreen mode can be safely ignored. Note that this does not permanently prevent multi-monitor and fullscreen modes from crashing the game, but gives a second chance to avoid applying both at the same time.
MISSING SHIP DESIGNS
PROBLEM: Saved ship designs will be gone, as if deleted.
SOLUTION: Restart the game.
WHITE SCREEN ON EXPLOSIONS
PROBLEM: When the bloom effect is turned off, the screen will turn almost completely white for a long period of time when a ship is hit, if zoomed in far enough.
SOLUTION: Go to the options menu and enable the bloom effect, then while in battle, use the “[” and “]” keys to adjust the bloom to any preferred level.
BLACK SCREEN ON MENU
PROBLEM: When the main menu should be displayed, there is only a black screen with music. Alt-tabbing gives the error message “Failed to initialise 3D engine:…\src\Game.cpp 435”.
SOLUTION: Go to C: -> Program Files (x86) -> Gratuitous Space Battles 2 and right-click on the .exe. Select “Properties”, click on “Security” then “Edit” and then tick the box titled “Full Control”. Apply this, then go to the tab titled “Compatibility”, select the box labeled “Run this program in compatibility mode”, and in the drop down box select “Windows 7”. Then, apply the changes and press OK. Right-click on the .exe and click “run as administrator”.
MISSING VISUAL COMPONENTS
PROBLEM: Upon switching to the ‘visuals’ tab of the ship editor, only a tiny amount of components will be available from the list on the left.
SOLUTION: Go to the main menu, then go back to the ship designer.
