Bugs

Hi, when this happens again, can you email the files in the games ‘debugdata’ folder to cliff@positech.co.uk. I just tested this a few times here and can’t replicate the crash. Also, does anyone else have this same issue?
When you say it crashes when you click on the phone. Is that clicking on the ringing phone at the top right, or the message in the phones ‘inbox’ on the left when it’s opened?
Cheers,

I meant when I click on the ringing phone itself, not the message box.

I only played for about 10 minutes this morning and tried to make it happen again, and of course it didn’t. I don’t have time to play much over the next few days but I will send the files when it happens.

Cliff, after you made the patch I completely deleted the demo from my system and downloaded the new version. But I got the same crash again after only a few minutes in the game. Since I couldn’t resume my game (the resume game button wasn’t available), I bought the full version tonight, thinking the demo maybe didn’t have the resume game function. I hope this wasn’t a mistake, because I almost immediately got the exact same crash with the full version. Both error messages were: “Unknown scripted function:…\src\SIM_Script.cpp 266.” The first time it froze up, and the second time the screen went black.

I’ve been eagerly looking forward to playing this game for weeks, but now I’m getting kind of demoralized. I’ve started four or five games that crashed within 10 minutes, and each time I had to recreate my character and wasn’t able to resume the game I had started. On a positive note, what I can see of the new game, I like. I just wish I could play it.

A minor issue I spotting last night when playing the demo:

If you want to type in a town name consisting of two words (eg. New York), the game will not let you capitalise the first letter of the second word, even using the shift key.

Hey guess what?
I’ve found the bug!
Ohhh it was a nasty one, and I need to spend some time checking and rechecking and verifying it. But it’s a definite bug and I’ve spotted it at last. I hope to have it patched this weekend.
And yup, I’ll allow capitalising too. makes mental note

While you’re patching the game anyway – can you perhaps make the simulation csv files moddable?

I’ve edited eveningclasses.csv, but I must edit the base game copy since the game doesn’t read these kind of files if they’re in the Documents\My Games\Kudos 2\mods directory.

Hi Cliffski

played quite a lot last night but today I’m trying to play and I constantly crash when I try and load a previously saved game or the auto save:-

could not find job:…\src\SIM_jobBase.cpp 507

I’m using Vista HP 64 bit and version 1.01. hope that’s of some help

Also have to say I’m enjoying the game, but the bathing/house cleaning thing seems to be a little too much at times (I’d shift the gains higher for a touch longer) and the robbery element needs way refining. After weeks of saving (balancing all the other stuff) I had about £220 stolen from me in the street and I was left with just £2.53. I’d expect to maybe get robbed for 20 - 40%, but not all of my money. Instantly I couldn’t socialise and lost a couple of friends as a result.

Kadayi

yup that job bug is also fixed and will be in the patch.

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature of some kind. Most of my guy’s friends are into sports, so after about five in-game years there’s been a lot of bowling, golf, tennis and soccer played. His bowling skill has been maxed for quite a while, but the other sports are still on 0% or 1%. I guess they involve more player skill than bowling, but that much more?

Thats been adjusted too, and doesn’t fall back as quickly any more. just uploading the patch now

I’ve gotten the same error when trying to go visit the Don Pablos restaurant. Not in the demo, but in the actual paid version. I’ve also had problems with the phone ringing and when you try to answer it, it crashes. Not all the time. Just sporadically. Other than that…great game =)

the new patch is in the patch thread above (1.02) this should fix all of these issues,
Cheers.

Just downloaded and installed the latest patch, and I think there’s a bug with the cars in this game. Should you need the cheap and mid-range cars to be able to use the expensive one? My character bought one of the expensive cars, but he can’t use it to commute anywhere. I know there were similar problems in Rock Legend with the cheap and luxury Riders and vehicles…I’m wondering if they’ve reappeared in this game.

I have the latest patch. I just got kicked off trying to go to Don Pablo’s again =)

I finally got the full version to work for a several hours last night, yay! Although I didn’t think I’d like the new graphics and other changes, after playing a while I like this version much better than Kudos 1, and would never go back to the old game. The most important change is that my girl isn’t always miserable, so she is able to keep her friends for a while. However, there are some strange things I’ve noticed, not sure if these are bugs or just intentionally annoying features:

– Once I create my character, her clothing never changes–I thought it was supposed to reflect the weather or the seasons in this new version? Also, I can’t figure out how go back and change her clothes myself. Is that intentional? If so, it’s a dead giveaway that this game was created by a guy. Please, more clothing options, and let us change them!

– When I sign up for a new class, the night of the class I always get a friend invite. This can happen a two or three weeks in a row, especially in the beginning of the game, making it tough to get started. Right away you have to choose between your friends and your future! I don’t think that’s fair, especially right at the start of the game.

– There are lots of nights when I get double friend invites. Okay, then you just have to choose which friend is more important, I guess. But how do two close friends have their birthday on the same day almost every month?

– My girl is happy, successful, cultured, educated, intelligent, has lots of friends, and makes good money. But the only reason her confidence stayed at a reasonable level after reading the two books was that she had one friend who kept boosting it. Huh? Why isn’t a great life and confidence training enough to keep your confidence up? Then she lost that friend for reasons I don’t understand. She invited the friend out 3 or 4 times a week, and the friend always accepted and most of the events boosted their relationship. But one day, out of the blue, the friend sent her a snippy message saying something like “You obviously don’t want to spend time with me anymore. Bye!” Now my girl’s confidence has tanked, apparently permanently, and I can’t figure out how to help her.

– The sound effects go in and out. At the start of the game I can hear them, but soon they become hit and miss, and then they mostly go silent for the duration of the game. Although this applies to all the sound effects, the only one I care about is the phone. So I have to keep my eyes constantly on the phone flashing, for fear I’ll miss an important call. So when a call comes in, I really wish the phone would flip open automatically or move to the middle of the screen so I won’t miss it.

– Okay, I know this one isn’t a bug, but–what do twenty-somethings really want most? Sex! Yet my cutie never even gets hit on. I guess all her male friends are gay, that’s cool. But what about the random guys she meets in class and at work? It’s a strange world where twenty-somethings never date and all the men have honorable intentions.

Overall, I really like the new game and these are relatively minor issues. I would definitely recommend it, especially to anyone who liked Kudos 1. The new graphics do grow on you, I’d just like more choices! The biggest issue now is that I don’t want to let go of my girl after we’ve bonded for 10 years. So please consider adding 10 more years to the game–the 30’s, with dating and marriage, please.

I think there are two clothing options in the stores…spiffy clothing and a new suit. And sunglasses, if you count those. If you buy the suit, your clothing does change to the suit. Of course, my character has gone paintballing and ice skating in that suit quite a few times. And since I’m a guy (and color blind to boot!), the thought of changing the colors of the clothing never occurred to me.

You just need to get the relationship up to a fairly high level. (I think only two or three bars on the facial screen should be white) I had two or three super-spectacular one-on-one socializing events in a row one weekend before she finally asked if I wanted to go out with her. Once the dating started, my character has invited quite a few male friends along for socializing parties, and a lot of the time they say how wonderful it is to spend time with my character’s significant other.

Thanks for the tips, sambrookjm. I’ll be on the lookout. I started a new game today and my character had a male friend with 100% attractiveness right from the start–so she keeps inviting him out, alone and with others, but so far nothin’ is happening. If the friendship meter is what heats things up, then what is the attractiveness meter for?

basically there is a minimum level you need to get your relationship to in order for romance to blossom. At that point, its a factor of attractiveness. If there is high attraction, it’s near instant, but if not, it might need to stay there a while for them to pop the question.
AND
Don’t be grubby if you are out with someone you like and want to go out with. They won’t propose romance if you smell bad

A minor interface problem is that if a friend has a large number of secondary friends they will be displayed under interface elements. If they are under the interface elements they can’t be selected.

I just ran into this today…one friend was under the date window at the top and I couldn’t click on her at all.
