Bureaucratic Collectivism in D4?

The closest that D4 can get to “true socialism” as defined by marx, engels, trotsky and lenin is what they called “bureaucratic collectivism”? Alternatively, by the other definitions of socialism, D4 probably sets you well on the way to that.

bureucratic collectivism is a term used by trotskyists to denounce soviet union and other socialist states as “not true socialism”. it is not a term used by marx, engels, lenin, or any other socialist thinker.
marxist understanding of democracy is fundamentally different than western definition of democracy, which the game is built upon. it wouldn’t make much sense to try to integrate marxist politics into a game where the main goal is to compete with other parties for votes to get elected into the parliament, when marxism rejects this entirely.

What about vanguardism?

Sorry for not being clear enough, by they I meant Lenin and Trotsky. Not Marx and Engels. But I stand corrected, Lenin did not use this term (as far as I know). But it was in use before his time in England.

lenin argues that while it makes no sense to reject participation in parliamentary elections when it serves to further the interests of the proletariat and raise class consciousness, vanguard party’s purpose is not to come to power through a democratic election, but to dismantle the state apparatus through a revolution and rebuild it along proletarian power, building a dictatorship of the proletariat.

The factions will then stay on within the communists. Whether it be NEPmen on one side or Anarcho-Communists on the other (of course before they all got purged).

Bureaucratic Collectivism can be applied to Western Democracies as well. Maybe in the form of state welfare capitalism.

now that makes sense. trotskyists argue that factions should be allowed within the party, and while theoretically marxist-leninists reject this in favor of the democratic centralism, in reality there were factions within the bolshevik party during stalin’s time, consisting of the left opposition of trotsky, right opposition of bukharin, and the centre lead by stalin. i suppose the factions of the party can replace the parties of the base game, and factions compete for dominance within the party instead of votes to get elected. although that sounds like it would be a lot work to implement, don’t know if cliff would go for it.

lol actually just created my account and this is the first thread i saw
