It seams that GSB crashes every time I retreat in galactic conquest.
I have gsb 1.63 with evey dlc, but no mods (never touched that).
My computer is a samsung netbook.
to many possibilities - hard to tell.
We will need some more info to help solve this one.
Can you screenshot the error or provide what the error message is when GSB crashes (you might have to move some windows)
In \My Documents\My Games\GratuitousSpaceBattles\debug there should be some text files. Post them here inside the code options
Random Suggestion for the day:
Rename the \My Documents\My Games\GratuitousSpaceBattles to something like GSBOffline.
Run the game again (note you will have to enter your reg key again)
Open the campaign and see if you can retreat without the game crashing.
There is no error message, it’s a simple crash-to-desktop.
Out of all my attempts to retreat, I believe I’ve had one success, and maybe one additional “success” where my whole fleet was wiped out before they could escape. The rest have ended in a crash-to-desktop. Sometimes it’s a second or two after I give the retreat order, sometimes it’s a little longer. Often, I speed the battle up to ~4x because at the point I’ve decided to retreat, I figure it’s hopeless and not worth watching.

Looking through the error files the only think i can really think of is that it has downloaded a challenge / fleet that it does not like. At this point in time my only suggestions are:
- Needle in a haystack
Delete the debug files and run the game again. Retreat as soon as possible and have a look at the debug files again. See if you can find what it was doing when it crashed.
Rebuild the GSB Directory
Rename your /Documents/My Games/GratuitousSpaceBattles/ to /GratuitousSpaceBattleoffline/
Restart the game and it will rebuild the /GratuitousSpaceBattles/ directory again.
Re-enter your online code and play the campaign again, see if you can get it to crash.
Is there anything I can do to get a more verbose log of what it’s doing?
I can enter a battle and retreat immediately easily enough. I don’t think it has anything to do with my opponent, because it only happens when I retreat, not any other time.
I also noted on one of my more recent retreats where I got a crash, it appeared as though multiple of my ships did depart the scene.
Just tried doing the rebuild-directory trick. It crashed almost immediately when I retreated.

The best solution for this is to wrap up all of your \my games\gratuitous space battles folder (unless its full of screenshots, pls don’t include them!) into a zip file and email me a link to the zip at cliff AT positech.co.uk (gmail might filter out the zip otherwise, or just rename it).
I can then launch one of your campaigns and get the crash to happen in debug (hopefully).
It could be bad data in a challenge somewhere in your campaign.
E-mail sent. I sent the “test” version of my game directory, which is much trimmed down. If it doesn’t go through, I’ll try to find somewhere to host it.
Tentatively, the fix was to download a fresh install package for the base game and re-install. I was doing it to get the shield support beam, and it looks like something relating to retreating was having similar issues of not having been patched and/or not having been installed in a patch.
