Carrier bay modules might be even more cool if each of them actually, physically carried one (or more!) fighter squadrons within them. The game could auto-deploy the carried squadrons, with a “rubber band” line connecting back to the mother ship. Once the game starts, the bay launches them (1 squadron every X seconds), and they form up at the point the player has selected, THEN the fighters act on their orders. The CV might then have a “Delay Launch” order, with a slider control to select the exact duration of the time-delay. That’d be very cool to have in the game.
