Notice the combination of Nomad and Alliance turrets.

Well this is the race I am currently working on for my own personal mod, while not original i still thought i would share:

Race name: The protectors of Earth
Theme: Dark with some red coloured ships, somewhat ufoish (disks) design, own set of weapons and special hulls (a doomsday device cruiser and shielded bombers, haven’t decided on the frigate).
Bonuses: The oposite of swarm with tribe scales, low integrity and high cost, high shield and armor boost + powerfull specialty weapons.
Backstory/other: A planet named Earth, yeah how original, was facing overpopulation, environmental crises and constant conflicts. A brilliant mind invented an AI core made to save the planet. Maybe he should have made it to save their species instead. After the species disappearance and some heavy terraforming the planet became one of the most beautiful planets in the galaxy once again. One day however the planet was hit by a meteorite shower. Further analysis of the meteorites showed that it was the remaining of ships from a battle. While knowledge of extraterrestrial species had already been acquired, they were deemed as a low thread since they showed no interest in the planet. The recent accident however proved that recalculations were required. The new result: to guarantee the planets safety, all species with spacefaring capabilities that showed tendencies of aggressive behaviour was required to be eliminated.

So yeah, no humans, but robots/AI’s. As i mentioned not original, but who don’t like robots :D.

New Idea

Race Name: Giant Microbes
Theme: Modified images of microbes floating in space
Bonus: Lots of module slots. Race specific modules with stack bonus rather than penalty. Now there’s actually a reason use larger hulls.
Backstory: Haven’t thought of one yet.

aww man, i had the idea of modules with stacking bonus too.

A mod I’m currently working on:

Race name: Astyfylakas
Theme: High-Tech ship
Bonuses: Ultra-heavy-expansive-and-cruiser-size frigate, Heavy fighter support, effective ECM weapon
Backstory/other: A long time ago, a time where even the Nomad were a young race, there was the Astyfylakas. Providing peace though firepower, this conglomerate of races have stop many war before they begun by annihilating the two opponents. But once they have reach the paroxysm of their power, the peace was here, and it lasted a long time. Without war, the Astyfylakas became useless. They decided to put themselves in sleep, waiting the moment of a new war.
Recently, a battle occurred above PX23694, and many ships have crash on the planet. The resulting explosions awoke the peacekeepers.
Peace will prevail, but they have a lot and a lot of work!

Race name: Astyfylakas nanites
Theme: Energy bubble
Bonuses: Ultra versatile ship with only hardpoints, swarm attack.
Backstory/other: When Astyfylakas need more firepower what ECM, they deploy the Nanites clouds.
Alone, a nanite is a harmless and non visible robot, but in cloud, they are highly dangerous bubble of energy capable of quick adaptation and torpedoes volley launching! It’s too late to go back, prepare yourself for high scale battles!

the intergalactic market is not dominated by one, but is in fact, very competitive. here are a few new races to show this.
Race name: the traders
Theme: like real water-based ships and boats, but in space, and i mean both wooden ships with sails and normal metal ships.
Bonuses: they get cannons with low tracking speed, shield pierce and firing interval. but high damage and armor pierce. they also take up little to no power, but more crew then most weapons. they also get space-sails, which are “engines” with very low thrust, but no power consumption.
Backstory/other: the traders are an ancient species of well, traders, mostly. nowadays, there are a lot of non-traders who have joined them, but this has hardly changed their habits of trading and making their planet bigger.

Race name: the iFruits.
Theme: smooth, with a lot of white and some colored lights. think apple products (hence the name), or the portal gun and turrets from portal.
Bonuses: high shields, speed and lots of utility weapons, but most of their ships and race-specific products are very, very expensive, and have uncreative names, usually starting with a random vowel. (iCruiser, aBeamweapon, aLotofbullets)
Backstory/other: the iFruits are a union of aliens from varying species and planets, but what they all share is the will to sell everyone ridiculously expensive weapons and ship hulls. since their products aren’t really popular yet, they decided to advertise their products by blowing up potential customers of other companies.

Race name: the fabricators
Theme: frigates, fighters and the smaller cruisers are pretty much boxes with engines, cockpits and gun points welded onto them, but the bigger cruisers are huge, smoking, rusty-looking space factories.
Bonuses: everything but their large cruisers is insanely cheap, to the point they have automation modules for fighters, because the pilot usually is about 90% of the worth otherwise, although the heavy computer slows fighters down quite a lot. their cruisers also get surprisingly costy and effective generators, which are usually used to power the factory machines, but can be used to power laser beams and missle launchers equally well.
Backstory/other: the fabricators are a huge collection of species, all of them forced to serve under a monarchy of insanely rich and powerfull kings. since they almost turned all their planets into ships, they started waging war to get some more materials for their business.

Well apparently this game doesn’t register stack penalty > 100%, so it’s impossible to create stack bonus.

thinking about making a mod out of the traders, but i’ll probably need some help with the art

Race name: The Pacifists
Theme: Spheres and tractor beams, gotta love 'em. They have Thermal Weapons, which are bullet weapons that act like Kinetic weapons with radiation. They punch through shields and armor, but they only fire every so often. They also have Nuclear Shotguns, which combine the awesome power of the shogun with also awesome power of radiation.
Bonuses: Strong hulls and generates more power. They are very slow, however, and suffer from weak shields and armor, but especially shields. More powerful armor autorepair makes armor still a viable choice.
Backstory/other: Some Tribe hippies were sitting around, smoking… um… ‘stuff’… when they realized that there definitely was one true god. So they join the Order. But they were soon disgusted by the Order’s violence and hate of other races. So they created the Inter Galactic Order of Peace, or IGOP. The others just called them the pacifists because of their foolish desire for peace. Eventually the Pacifists saw what the tribe saw, that the universe was to corrupted and the only way to peace is a sudden bout of intergalactic violence. Reluctantly they combined their old Tribe technology and the Order technology that they had seen and took it to the battlefield.

The Crime series: Crime is the negative side effect of civilization, even advanced space-faring ones. These races are some of the worst gangs and groups in the known galaxy.

Race name: The Slavers
Theme: Enslave other species, so they require no crew. Their weapons are more focused on disabling the enemy’s ship and keeping their own safe. So they have better ECM, disruptor bombs, tractor beams, and some radiation. They also have an effective EMP shield and more smart bombs.
Bonuses: Produce less power, but fast and light. They have better engines and stronger armor.
Backstory/other: A coalition of many different members of all the species who raid worlds, kidnapping citizens to keep as slaves. Eventually they got very large, and that is when the rest of the races noticed it was an organized group not just a few isolated kidnappings. They swore to free their citizens.

Race name: The Cartels
Theme: Drug cartels in space, so they have to hide. Better antifighter defenses and strong camouflage system. Their ships are mostly cylinders, as they rotate for artificial gravity so they can grow the drugs inside.
Bonuses: Very slow, low armor and shields, but big ships with tons of slots. They can also have drug farms on their ships, which need a lot of crew but generate a lot of money. This allows for much bigger fleets. Missiles that can out any ship in one shot, and can even hit fighters, are a deadly threat.
Backstory/other: Some of the citizens of the Federation realized that the Tribe and some others were a good market. Since drugs are illegal in Federation, they split off and began to tap this market.

Race name: The Hackers
Theme: Glowing, pulsating, glowing, glowing, ships. lots of electronics.
Bonuses: medium speed, very strong shields and some good hull-hugging shields (lesser beings call it ‘armor’). Requires lots of power, but little crew, very strong and long lasting ECM and engine hacking devices. Also have a very powerful Missile Guidance Scrambler.
Backstory/other: Many political groups started to form in the Empire (I see a possibility for another trio here… Must make one later) and started fighting. Many tech-savvy citizens saw the opportunity to take down the system without revealing themselves as Rebels. An accident occurred, in which their hacking led to the destruction of an entire solar system. The Empire found them and banished them, and the Rebels wouldn’t accept them because of what they did. Bitter and angry, they lashed out at the galaxy as a whole.

Race name: Unknown (don’t have a better name for em now)
Theme: Random earth craft, that includes air, sea, and space. From any time frame of earth history.
Bonuses: No specific bonuses, but they tend to be frail, slow massive ships that are cheap.
Background: An alien race of collectors, they have visited earth many times and stole craft and people from earth. Then converted the craft they stole into useful ships. Once the humans taught them how to use there ships and its stuff they were put to death. They are mostly in this war to defend themselves and there life. . . . Beside collecting some neat ships from those that they blow up.

Race Name: Reptavians
Theme: The Reptavians are a highly intelligent, ritualistic, bipedal avian-reptilian species that hails from the more turbulent center of the GSB universe. They measure roughly 1 meter in height and have skittish personalities and rather short lifespans with high reproductive rates. Females have dull, brown to green shaded scales and usually sparsely plumed in a single shade of bright colored feathers that insulate the neck region and adorn the length of the arms and legs. Males have mottled colored scales that are a brighter shade of brown to green and are adorned in much more plentiful and colorful plumage and are slightly larger than their female counterparts. One male commands an entire ship with hundreds of females controlling everything else.

In any clutch of eggs where roughly 30 to 50 young are born, about 5 may be males. The males are sent back to the Reptavian homeworlds where they will participate in trials to prove their worth of joining the reptavian fleet. When a male comes of age, he must kill, gut, preserve, and retrofit their own ship hull. Most accomplish smaller prey and therefore take on the role of fighter pilots, but are never able to pass on their reproductive genes. Few manage to kill a frigate sized prey, and even fewer live to catch the monster of a beast that could be classified as a cruiser. But the gamble to risk one’s life for bigger prey is worth it. After all, the passing of one’s genes onto future generations is the reward.

These “bird-lizards,” as they are called, travel through space in ships built around the skeletons of their home solar system’s alpha predators and armored with the same enormous beasts’ hides with proper space-faring electronics, warp drives, and weaponry outfitted ergonomically into the dead beast’s frame. The designs of their fighters, frigates, and cruisers rely solely on the kind of beast that the ship is made from. While the Reptavians prefer kinetic weaponry, like missiles, rockets, and autocannons, they have been known to fit lasers onto their ships since they opened themselves up to intergalactic trade.

Bonuses: Cannot use Shields. Armor Bonus from 10 to 35%. Speed bonus from 0 to 20%. Hull Integrity Bonus from 5% to 25%. Fighters cheap: -15% cost. Frigates have an average cost. Cruisers are very expensive but strong.

Backstory/Other: After driving off multiple attempts by the Federation and the Rebels to colonize some of their home system worlds for natural resources, the Reptavians realized that the only way to defend their home was to expand their reach amongst the stars. Using the momentum gained with the victories over rebel and federation fleets, their contempt with humans, and the technologies acquired from the salvage, the Reptavians “spread their wings” across certain parts of the inner GSB galaxy. When they reach a period of relative peace, they terraform conquered planets by importing animal species from their home system to the new worlds, letting them feast on the local populations, especially if they are human, with the final stage of assimilation of a habitable planet being the construction of humidification plants and weather generators. In a sense they recreate the conditions of their home planet on every conquered one. However, their goal is not galactic rule but rather preservation of their kind, but the annihilation of humans would be a bonus.

alien space skeletons!!

awesome!

Race Name: Polypoids
Theme: Organic ships that look like hulking masses of junk…until they begin to open fire on unsuspecting fleets. Made up of the salvage and junks of different races incorporated into a carbon-based rocky superstructure.
Bonuses: No Fighters. Ships are cost -90%. However, pilot and crew costs are very high for frigates and cruisers (see back story). Hull Integrity +5 to 25%. Speed -40 to -75%. Weapon tracking speeds reduced by 10%.
Back Story/Other: Federation data on the Polypoids is very limited but they seem to be an increasing presence in the GSB galaxy. Of the few studies conducted on these coral-like cnidarians, the findings suggest that the eggs and sperm of these creatures date in the millions of years old and are found all over the galaxy as their gametes float endlessly in the blackness of space until the right kind of energy amount is discovered and they can secure a place to begin growth and another birth cycle.

The studies explained the mysterious odd black rocky growths that begin to form around space fleet engine thrusters to be polypoidian. The research concluded that the rocky growths were carbon-based mineral deposits left behind by dead polyps with the current, living generation on the surface of the formation, “feeding” on the energy that the thrusters emit when traveling through space.

The only way discovered to stop the growths were to stop using the suspect ship for roughly one standard month. The polyps would go into a state of hyper-hibernation, coating themselves with a thin layer of the extremely valuable carbon-based mineral known as the diamond. The flip side to this preservation technique is that the polyp cannot break its own shell, thus stopping the growth. While some have seen a profit out of this “harvesting,” it requires a lot of specialized equipment to cut through the diamond shell and then carefully lance the rock off of the armored ship plating. It is not a popular practice. Most fleets did not bother with the formations as the polypoids growth rate is incredibly slow at a rate of .06 mm per standard year time cycle.

However, that is where the data stops and the dangers begins. The introduction of radiation guns and megaton missiles into fleet battles has caused a change in the Polypoidians. The remnant energy left by these atomic weapons has increased the spawn rates of these normally unintelligent and simple cnidarian lifeforms. The Polypoids in the area of the battle, drawn by the radiation’s constant flux of energy, attach themselves to any affected metal and begin to grow and reproduce. It is this nuclear energy created an over abundance of food for the cnidarians and what used to take years and years of reproduction takes an exponentially less amount of time. Days. To make things worse, ominous mutations begin to occur.

When enough polypoids cover a surface of an object, like a broken reactor, shield generator, or Cruiser laser, they begin to automatically reconnect broken wiring and superstructures as their bodies and structures are highly conductive but not sensitive to electricity. When Polypoids discovered the power that a cruiser’s reactor can generate, populations boomed even faster. As ever larger masses of polypoids drew closer to the energy source with the reactor, they eventually connect into a large hulking black-rock mass of bits and pieces of the fighters, frigates, and cruisers of the fleet battles past.

With a huge network of Polyps linked together in a hulking mass, a hive-like mind began to develop, with intelligence coming from the polyps closest to the largest energy source. Weapon systems were repaired and reactivated, shield systems were brought once again online, and munitions like missiles and bullets are manufactured within the giant rocky hulks. The intelligence spread into targeting systems and navigation systems, even communications were tapped. It is of no wonder that these simple creatures have been around for millions, even billions of years. They know how to survive.

Some researchers believe that if left unchecked, the Polypoids could extinguish life in the known galaxy.

Fleet captains are reporting hails from ships thought long dead. When they investigate, they are fired upon by the bulky masses of Polypoidians wanting only to acquire more energy for themselves. While the accuracy of the Polypoidian ships are quite dismal, extreme caution is to be used. Weaponry that emits large amounts of radiation should not be used in battles with these creatures as the creatures feed on that type of energy! New regulations in the Federation Fleet Manual have added that all ship reactors come with a self-destruct sequence that vaporizes much of the essential power supplies when a ship is deemed lost and unsalvagable.

O.O
You sir, are genius!

Lols. Far from it. It would be awesomely epic for someone to mod one of these though.

It would
And now the Politics Trio:
As the Empire expanded, it was inevitable that political parties would form and they would compete. But no one expected the level of violence that has formed…

Race name: The Loyalists
Theme: Mostly traditional - looking Imperial ships, their color is black.
Bonuses: A lot like Imperials, but they have even better shields and produce more power.
Backstory/other: The Loyalists are a group of Imperials loyal to the emperor, and they will fight to prove it. They want to keep everything just as it was when the Emperor was in the height of his power. They advocate enslaving prisoners and expanding the Empire. They want to have tight control over the entire economy, so that they can regulate how much money is going to weapons or “unnecessities” like housing.

Race name: The Democratics
Theme: Their color is Purple, the favorite color of their founder, Katastrophias.
Bonuses: More crew modules that provide more crew. Their ships are also cheaper and faster, with more hull integrity. But their shields and armor come down easily.
Backstory/other: Katastrophias believed that if the Empire continued to expand at the current rate, then all of the power would drive him crazy and make him do irrational things. Being an Imperial at heart, he did not suggest that they stop expanding, but that there be elections every 10 solar rotations for a new Emperor, who could never be elected twice. The military would also have the power to overthrow the Emperor if he stayed in office too long. The police would have the power to overthrow the military if it abused that power. The militia, the army of the people and the Emperor, had the power to overthrow the police if they abused that power. The concept of democracy was not only unpleasant to the Loyalists, but also gave them headaches because of all the overthrowing. So they executed Katastrophias and ever since, his followers have been out for revenge.

Race name: The Corrupt
Theme: All sorts of different ships, some crazy.
Bonuses: Very well rounded, each hull has one 100% boost.
Backstory/other: The corrupt come from both Loyalists and Democratics. They are paid by companies and “special interests” to help them out in the Senate. When the fighting started, they received many ships from their sponsors. Naturally, nobody likes them, but no one knows that a politician is of the corrupt until s/he is in office.

Whoa! Emergency stop!

We already have one Tribe in the game. We definitely don’t need two.

That 100% hull integrity bonus makes for a world of heartbreak. Unkillable or “only” very-nearly-unkillable ships cause severe disruption to the game system. I urge you to reconsider that. The Balance Mod that’s currently in progress has already advocated a race-wide nerfing of the Tribe for everyone’s own good…taking that hellish hull integrity bonus down to 80% max.

Everything else in your Empire sub-factions is pretty cool. Carry on!

I meant that each hull would have a different boost:
100% speedboost
100% armorboost
etc…

But, who doesn’t love a good overpowered race?
