Grand Challenge Quest take three

So, I have posted my new shiny Rebel fleet, the idea for which I’ve been saving for the whole challenge just for the late game - it even beats Legedi’s “I-cheat-by-using-3-hulls” fleet (:p), though it’s often very close. Challenge is up as Zounds Corbeau - Rebels.

It looks like this GCQ has shown good missile balance: they do a good job of wrecking unless there’s point-defense around.

Got a problem. Corbeau, I tested your rebel fleet five times against Legendi’s rebel fleet. You didn’t win. Out of the five times I tested it, you won only once. This brings us to the next problem. Legendi’s fleet is only using three hulls. I didn’t specify that you had to use only different hulls, only that you had to use different kinds of ships. I am really not sure how I feel about this. Due to the bonuses that hulls confer, it could be viewed as wrong, but if the ships are significantly different, is it okay? … Actually, having just reread this last sentence, I think allow two of the same hull will open the door for to much lawyering. I will let this fleet stand, and for the rest of this tournament, the use of the same hull is okay, but starting next tournament, it will have to be different hulls. Obviously, changing crew or power modules does not count as different. Nor does changing the position of respective weapon or defense modules. If the same hull is used, I want to see significantly different weapons and reasonably different defenses. In the case of defense: armor, shields, PD, speed, etc are counted.

Legendi,
Since your fleet has not been beaten, you might want to hold on to your new build. You only get four chances.

Having looked over Legendi’s Frigates, I am going to let it stand, but it is because of how similar they are that I am not going to allow it in the future. They are bordering on way too similar and having the same hull bonus seems to unbalance things.

I think both would be good.

That’s… mildly surprising. I posted the fleet after I made some modifications and won two in a row. Just ran five, and won 3-2; problem is, it depends heavily on how fleets decide to maneuver. If things get scattered, I pick off Legedi’s frigates and win. If not, they finish my shields and then it’s all over. :frowning:

Unfortunately, I can’t delete a challenge once it’s posted. I can (and have, unless insane luck or hardware is skewing compared to Lokis’ computer) post a revised version that does beat Lededi’s rebels like it should (I replaced the target boosters on the Lancers with fast recharge shields, which is enough to swing almost all the endgame situations in my favor, and get a 6-0 test result). I could post that as a “Revised” version. Heck, if Lokis wants to test the revised version to make sure it operates the same way (again, all I did was replace the target boosters with fast recharge shields - and that’s the only match that was even close, or in which the boosters might have mattered), then he can post it as a revised entry that does what it should.

This wouldn’t be any problem at all if we could delete our own posted challenges. Cliff, you listening? :wink:

Withdrew my second fleet. I’ll wait until things are cleared up.

As a note, I really like this map. Not having fighters is refreshing. I think fighters in general are too annoying for my taste. Hopefully that changes as the game develops.

I switched the booster for a fast recharge shield on all three lancers… it put you over cost. Did you drop something after that?

In future challenges, I am going to be making different fleet combinations. Tho, I might increase speed. 1x when you test six fleets is a PITA.

It shouldn’t put me over cost. Heck, it only adds 40 per ship times 3 ships… and I was almost 180 under cost in my original deployment. We are both using version .15, right?

Agree so much. Though your Fed fleet is making me want fighters back. :smiley:

Superfast frigates work about as well for the same basic role without throwing balance out of whack.

I am still listing 25028? Can someone test this please, and give me a yay or nay verdict on whether it kills everything? Cordeau, is the fleet cost on your computer the same as what Maverick is getting?
