Australia has been credited with escaping the recession that has gripped the rest of the world, but a closer look at the national account figures shows that taking into account the increase in Australia’s population, the economic growth rate has been below the population increase rate. This means that even though economic growth has occurred, the population as a whole is worser off because the population increase rate has been greater.

This could be included in any wellbeing statistic.
