Dual laser fighters die to single laser 2.4+ speed fighters in a straight dogfight but they’re better against cruisers. Still, they’re not much better against cruisers than the 1 laser variants and I consider enemy fighters to be the biggest danger to my own fighters so I don’t usually include them in my rebel fleets.
I agree that 2 laser FT squads will slaughter enemy cruisers, but IMO 1 laser FT squads are infinately better due to the versitality.2 laser FTs die almost instantaniously to enemy fighters; while 1 laser FTs can not only kill enemy fighters, but also kill enemy cruisers as well, albeit at a slower, ergo more dangerous, rate.
