[Resource] Ships

OH GOD tanckyouthankyouthankyou! add some tribe pritty please? (my own attempts to hack some tribe ships together with GIMP have been…less than cool-looking.) Whoohoo! Does little happy dance

sexeh!

really nice work man

BIG Agreeds !! They are so great…

@ Mechanis,

I have one week vacations from now, maybe I will do some tribe ships but I also want to continue work on my pirates mod… So I won’t promise anything

Also if Cliff would be interested I think he will post or send me an email  But I think he is quite busy with campain mode and everything at the moment and will leave the integration to the modding community ^^

one of my own fed ships, gonna be a frigate.

Sweet, dude. You gotta post the sprite for that frigate sometime.

a little bit strangely cut along the edges and some floaty bits but it looks nice, especialy the saucer in the front needs a littlé fix I think. but that is just my oppinion

I might refine it a bit before I post it, But for this purpose it’s made for you can’t really see most of the flaws.

Hi everyone
Like so many others (only probably much lamer in my case) I am working on my own personal dreadnought mod. These ships look gratuitously awesome and I fully intend to steal the Alliance, Rebel and Empire ones unless Eich objects.
One thing though, could you please tell me what software you use for creating and editing .dds files? I would REALLY love to make some new models for the Federation. I have a few ideas in that regard.

No objects here, the reason I made those is that people use them
For the creation of the dds files I used Photoshop. But you need a Nvidia DDS plugin to convert a psd into dds. Can be found here: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html

I recommend to DL one of Cliffs psd files of one of his elite federation ships from this post (if you did not till now)

There you will see how you have to use the alpha channel if you have no exerience with it…
If you have further questions don’t hesitate to ask

OK, looks like I’m going to have to lay out a lot of cash if I’m going to make my own ship sprites. Damn. Might be worth it though, I don’t have any decent image editing software.
In the meantime I’ll use the ones you made and see if I can bang out a dreadnought mod in the next week or two.

There’s no need of spending money for a program to create your own sprites. I use GIMP for image editing which is similar to photoshop (I don’t know if it has all the same features of photoshop but for 2d editing is pretty useful) and also is free.

If you want to try it, here is the link for GIMP’s website: http://www.gimp.org/
And the DDS plugin for GIMP: http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/

I haven’t done any ship-making, but it seems like GraphicsGale might be good and/or absurdly slow. Hmm.

Edit: Just checked, no .dds support, so unless you plan on moving it between programs…

Paint dot Net is another possibility.

Amazingly, it has support for .dds files as well as alpha-channel transparency, both of which you will need for GSB. I don’t know to what extent they’re supported, so investigate before planning an entire mod.

But best of all…it’s free. Go grab it here and give it a try.

SWEEEEET!
Thank you everyone. This rocks.
I’m getting lots of warm fuzzy feelings. Warm fuzzy feelings make me want to buuild ships to destroy the galaxy. You have my solemn word that when and if I manage to complete this the ships will be totally ridiculous.

@ Archduke,

I used Paint.net in the past. But somehow I did not find any possibility to produce mip maps… well give it a try  at least Paint.net produces a better alpha channel than Photoshop. Photoshop sux…

can you give a dricet link to what file download… i lost my patience tring find dds plugin…

How to make the icon for module so that the background will be transparent an not black or white?

Nebdar, if you’re using Windows, it looks like you want THIS file:
