The official 'Outcasts' race preview image thread!

Thanks for that pic. It’s good to see the “family resemblance” between the Strontium, Radium and unnamed frigate.

I think the frigate is one of the Gallium frigates shown about halfway down the first page. It looks like it, anyways.

They look good so far.

Have you not created the turret sprites yet? The ones in the image look curiously like Order turrets.

indeed, the turret graphics get done last.

Omg, the rotating lights look epic.

Cliff, there is any possibility to use pre-made (custom) .gif animations instead of the hardcoded animations in the near future? its something that i always wanted to see on this game.
I know that we can play around with the engineglows, pulseglow and the order tractor beam systems. We can change the visual graphics and position in all of them and change the pulsation frequency in one of them. But none of them let to the modder create sequencial animations for the ships (like flames, or other types of glowing, lights, or even animated wings for The Plague Mod (insectoid race).

I’ve played Battleships Forever, i know that it is VERY different to Gratuitous Space Battles, but the possibility of adding external (non hardcoded maybe?) “.gif” animations as an extra layer over (or under) the ship would be EPIC.

I keep thinking about that very topic, but I would much rather overhaul the entire ship-design and graphics engine to be ultra-awesome and do it in GSB 2.0 than try to wedge it into the current game.

Oh, yeah, sorry for the offtopic :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for the fast answer ^^

In the new missile video’s comments you said you had a fighter hull implemented. I’m interested in seeing if the fighter hulls will be round as well.

That’s really cool

I’ll show fighters soon, in the meantime, here is a palladium class cruiser and accompanying frigates.

Are the fighters that are escorting the Palladiums Outcast fighters or are they just placeholders? They don’t look like they belong to any of the other races.

Classified - Most Secret - Burn Before Reading
The following is a report on the vessels recently sighted engaging Swarm, Tribe, and Parasite forces. Be advised that the following is not yet confirmed by field agents, but is reconstructed from spy drone data recordings.

Radium class Cruiser
est. 233m
min 7 guns
max 12 guns
probable 7 guns

First Known Sighting: Engagement with Swarm in what appears to be the Emerald Nebula. Probable Swarm victory. Radium vessels in this battle demonstrated an ability to project illusory copies of themselves in an attempt to draw fire. At least two Radium cruisers believed to be present, facing at least one Ra cruiser and several squadrons of Swarm fighters. Swarm expected to be victorious based on damaged state of visible Radium. Diameter of Radium estimated at 232.73m. Ten turrets visible on the Radium Cruiser.

Next Sighting: Engagement with Tribe. At least six Radium cruisers engaging approximately seven assorted Tribe Cruisers and at least two Tribe Frigates, with several supporting fighter squadrons. Radium Cruiser diameter estimated at 233.75m. Tribe victory expected at time of spy drone death. Radium cruiser in visual range did not exhibit ability to project illusions, but was carrying more weapons than the variant facing the Swarm. Twelve turrets visible on Radium; three appear to be fire-linked, at least three pairs of turrets are also likely to be fire-linked due to placement and weapon similarity.

Next Sighting: Engagement with unknown enemy forces. Spy drone was able to transmit images of a pair of Radium cruisers, but was destroyed before more information could be recorded and transmitted. Twelve turrets visible on Radium Cruiser.

Next Sighting: At least three Gallium frigates in company with two or more Radium Cruisers, engaging Parasite fighter squadrons and frigates. Unknown if Parasite cruisers were present. Presence of Parasite frigates established by visible weapons fire. Based on comparison with Radium Cruiser, Gallium Frigate is approximately 86.57m in diameter. Four visible turrets on Gallium frigate. Ten turrets visible on Radium Cruiser, three of which appear to be fire-linked.

Next Sighting: One Gallium Frigate in company with one Radium Cruiser and one Strontium Cruiser. Gallium Frigate and Strontium Cruiser appear damaged. All three ships are engaging Swarm fighters and at least two Swarm Cruisers, based on visible weapons fire and Swarm shield bubble. Swarm victory expected from visual evidence. Gallium frigate diameter estimated at 86.57m by comparison with Radium Cruiser.

Gallium class Frigate
est. 86.57m
min 4 guns
max 5 guns
probable 5 guns

First Known Sighting: At least three Gallium frigates in company with two or more Radium Cruisers, engaging Parasite fighter squadrons and frigates.

Next Sighting: Four Gallium Frigates in company with two Palladium Cruisers and possibly one Strontium Cruiser, with fighters of unknown configuration and class escorting the cruisers. Establishes that the turret pair in the forward starboard quadrant of the Gallium Frigate represents two independent weapons.

Strontium class Cruiser
est. 190.46m
min 6 guns
max 10 guns
probable 7 guns

Only Confirmed Sighting: One Gallium Frigate in company with one Radium Cruiser and one Strontium Cruiser. Gallium Frigate and Strontium Cruiser appear damaged. All three ships are engaging Swarm fighters and at least two Swarm Cruisers, based on visible weapons fire and Swarm shield bubble. Swarm victory expected from visual evidence. Strontium Cruiser diameter estimated at 190.46m by comparison with Radium Cruiser and Gallium Frigate. Ten visible turrets on Strontium cruiser; placement suggests that several are fire-linked.

Unconfirmed Sighting: In company with at least two Palladium Cruisers and at least four Gallium Frigates, escorted by unknown fighters. Insufficient portion of vessel visible in image to confirm sighting or provide any further intelligence on Strontium Cruiser.

Palladium class Cruiser
est. 194.79m
min 8 guns
max 13 guns
probable 9 guns

Only Known Sighting: At least two Palladium Cruisers in company with at least four Gallium Frigates, unknown fighters, and possible Strontium Cruiser. Engaging unknown enemy. Palladium Cruiser is seen to have ten turrets, with further three points which appear to be turret mounts based on comparison with Radium Cruisers. Two pairs of turrets appear to be fire-linked, with additional pair of very closely placed turrets believed to also be fire-linked; suspected turret mounts thought to represent one single turret and one pair of fire-linked turrets. Size of Palladium estimated at 194.79m based on comparison with Gallium Frigate.

Unknown Fighter (Lunar Lander)
est. 10.8m
Capabilities unknown

Only Known Sighting: Escorting Palladium Cruisers and Gallium Frigates, with possible Strontium Cruiser. Size estimated at 10.8m. Armament and performance characteristics unknown. Spy drone destroyed before sufficient data was collected. Current code name for unknown fighter is Lunar Lander.

I really like the front section of the Palladium that is just the ring girders. It gives the ship a feel of not-quite-constructed … which probably means it’s about to hand you your head.

wait… what?

interesting analysis though.

It’s in reference to a joke I saw in a history book about highly classified documents.

Ok here is an image showing one of the new nebula backdrops for them to fight against

I’m seeing a new hull on the ships bar. Anyone else?

I see 2 new hull…
(With one of the two that look like bagel)

darn it now im hungry

anyway when do we get to see the fighters

I only see one new hull. I think that the top three silhouettes are Gallium Frigates, the next two are Palladium Cruisers, next three are Radium Cruisers, next four are Strontium Cruisers, and the remainder are something new and frigate-sized.

The nebula background in this image and the one in the previous image are very nice.

OK, there is only one, I didn’t see that it was a Palladium.
