Common technical problems

My game is hanging on the loading screen with the Big Pharma logo
There are a number of things to try. Try each one in order and see if it fixes it before you move on:

  1. Run the game in administrator mode:
  • Find the installation directory e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Big Pharma
  • Right click on the Big Pharma.exe and click properties
  • Navigate to the Compatibility tab
  • Tick the box that says “Run this program as an administrator”
  • Click OK
  1. Run the game in compatibility mode:
  • Find the installation directory e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Big Pharma
  • Right click on the Big Pharma.exe and click properties
  • Navigate to the Compatibility tab
  • Tick “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
  • Select Windows 8
  • Click OK
  • If that does not work, also try compatibility mode for Windows 7
  1. Save game has become corrupted, delete them
  • Find the save game folder:
    Windows - C:\Users\Tim\Documents\My Games\Big Pharma\Saves
    Mac - /Library/Application Support/Big Pharma/Saves
    Linux - $XDG_DATA_HOME/.local/share/Big Pharma/Saves
  • Delete or rename save folder. This will reset your progress but will help diagnose the issue. If this fixes the game and you would like help recovering your progress, post your corrupted global.data file in the forums.

If this doesn’t work there are two more things to try before posting. If the ‘Saves’ folder doesn’t exist or is empty, try 4a. If the saves folder does exist but deleting it did not work, try 4b.

4a. Manually recreate the folder structure

  • Navigate to:
    Windows - C:\Users\Tim\Documents\My Games
    Mac - /Library/Application Support/
    Linux - $XDG_DATA_HOME/.local/share/
  • Create the ‘Big Pharma’ folder.
  • Enter this directory
  • Create a ‘Saves’ folder
  • Create a ‘Mods’ folder
  • Create a ‘Maps’ folder
  • Create a ‘Screenshots’ folder

4b. Replace the global.data file

  • Download this clean global.data file, use right-click ‘save target as’
  • Place it in the …\Big Pharma\Saves folder. If global.data already exists, replace it.

I am experiencing random crashes!

  1. Are you running EVGA Precision or other overclocking software and encountering random crashes? Please try disabling your overclocking software and seeing if that fixes the issue before submitting.

  2. Are your graphics drivers up-to-date?

  3. One user reported that replacing their GFX card fixed this issue. Therefore, please look into the possibility of whether this issue is at your end rather than an issue with the game.

Game does not work after auto-patching
If you have the standalone (non-steam) Windows build and you encountered an issue while updating the game, please try re-downloading the game from the link you were sent when you purchased it and reinstalling.

LINUX Game saves OK, but does not appear in the load dialog

LINUX Game crashes shortly after running
See this post: http://positech.co.uk/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=14334#p77580 This issue is outstanding.

Posting tips

Please follow these tips to increase your chances of getting your technical issue resolved or your reported bug fixed.

  • This board is for bugs and technical support only. If you want to discuss any other aspect of the game, including feature requests and gameplay suggestions, please use the other board.

  • Please check to see if the problem you are reporting has been posted before, I know it can sometimes be difficult, but at least check through the titles on the first page of posts.

  • Post titles should be of the form: “[BUG/SUPPORT][WIN/Mac/Linux]…description…”

  • If you are having issues getting a copy of the game, getting the game running or are experiencing crashes to desktop then please use [SUPPORT]. If the game is running but you have encountered a bug mid-game then use [BUG]. The rule of thumb is if it’s one-to-one support that’s required, use [SUPPORT], if it’s a bug that could affect everyone, use [BUG].

  • Use a descriptive title for your thread and in the body of your message. This will help others see if they are running into the same issue. Be as descriptive as possible, please - you are not the only person in need of help here, and time is finite.

  • Please also include an error log. Copying and pasting it inside a CODE block works well – select that button when posting, and type your error log between the forum field’s (code) (/code) tags. Here’s what your fresh new CODE block will look like:

See below for locations of error log files.

  • If it’s a graphical bug, then post a screenshot. The forum doesn’t handle screenshots inside posts that well, so you can try it as an attachment if that’s easier.

Locations of error logs:
Windows: Inside the installation directory Big Pharma_data\output_log.txt
Mac: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Twice Circled/Big Pharma/Player.log

Thanks,

Tim
