Quite simply, how do they work, what do I need to be able to use them, and how useful are they? 
The fact is, they work even if you dont activate em. Sadly it seems the two-stage missiles are bugged. Even if you dont want to use em… they always activate its 2nd stage. So, it looks like all missiles are two-stage based.
