Unable to run GSB on Windows 7 64-bit

#1

Ok, I’ve installed GSB using Impulse, but whenever I try to run it I get an error titled Failed to CreateWindow with the text “The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.”

I was running the game on this same machine earlier on Windows XP SP3 just fine, now with Windows 7 64 bit I can’t. Any insights?

#2

Hi the game was developed on windows 7 64 bit, so thats not it. It sounds more like a problem with impulse than the game, presuming it doesn’t launch at all. It also sounds quite fundamental. Have you done a virus scan, just to check?

#3

Odd, the problem has gone away on its own. I guess this is one problem that really did just want a restart.

#4

That Microsoft for you

#5

So, there should be no problem running in 64 bit Windows 7? Did there use to be a problem or was GSB always released as Win7 64 bit ready?

#6

well I develop the game now on 64 bit windows 7, so if it stopped running, I’d be the first to know (and fix it). the game runs fine on W7 64 bit.

#7

I run Vista 64-bit, and the demo works fine, the game worked fine for two days, then all I got was this error.
Reboots and reinstalls do not help. Any Ideas?

That looks like its running fine, (the intersect code fails now and then, harmlessly). It sounds like something else on your system is taking GSB with it., or thats the wrong log, because that shows the game shutting down as instructed. The logs get rebuilt every run.

#9

The computer gives this error message

the filename, directory name or label syntax is incorrect.

and windows says that the game has stopped working. I have not added any software in the past month or so, and the demo still works. The other debug file is this

That sounds like the working directory for the game is not being set correctly, so it cannot find any of it’s files. Is this being launched from a shortcut? where did you buy the game, and where did you install it? Is this running as a limietd user or as the computers administrator?

#11

I got the game from the positech site, downloaded to the recommended directory. I am the administrator for this computer, and the error comes up no matter how many times I re-download or re install. I have tried launching both from the shortcut and the game file itself. However, my demo still works

#12

And now my re-download link will not work either, so unless the problem is solved, i cant even put it on another computer

#13

I would really like to have a reply, it has been 6 weeks since i last posted.
Thank you

#14

Hi, so on the exact same machine, the demo runs fine but the full game does not? if you try one after the other?
There is something weird about the file permissions or other settings on your machine in that case.
If you grab the full versions exe and stick it in the demo folder, does that run ok?

#15

As of today, demo doesnt work either. It worked for 3+ weeks, and the full game ran for 2 days

#16

Something has definitely changed on your machine then. An updated driver or other software change?

#17

I rolled back video drivers, which has not made any difference.
