Unable to start "Democracy 3"

Windows 7, English (UK).
Crashes on blank screen. Have tried running in administrator and compatibility (XPsp3) mode, have uninstalled & reinstalled.
Bought the game from Humble, I don’t use Steam.

Any suggestions welcome! Happy to give further details as needed.

For anyone wondering how I solved this - I edited the prefs file and changed windowed=0 to windowed=1. It seems to be a screen resolution issue.

But it works now, which is good.
