Windows 8 issue: GLC.exe has stopped working

I have installed the latest Humble Bundle 6 version (1.62 posted 2013-04-03 at 22:00) on my Windows 8-64 setup (with AMD HD7750@1920x1200 with the latest Catalyst driver, FX-8350, 16GB RAM). I’ve never installed the game anywhere before.

The game will not start beyond a short display of the title screen, the error I get is ‘GLC.exe has stopped working’ and Windows does not find a solution. I have tried deleting the preferences directory in My Games repeatedly, set various different screen resolutions and windowed or full-screen mode. I mainly use Linux, but I really want to play this game on Windows, as I don’t want to waste the disk space I have assigned to Windows 8…

Files in debug appear not too informative:

Hopefully some other members that run GSB under win 8 can offer some advice.
At the moment i only have questions:

  • Was there an errors.txt in the debug folder ?
  • Do you get the title screen music ?
  • Do you have any mods installed ? <-(from what you have said i doubt it, but it pays to ask)
  • Have you tried the install file on another PC <-(Determine if the error is hardware conflict or the install file itself)

Thanks for your questions/suggestions darkstar.

Not, the only files were the .txt-s I have posted.

Not that I am aware of.

No, it’s a fresh setup. (Actually I had(/have) never played GSB)

Yes, it worked. But that computer was Windows 7 (and uses different graphics driver versions).

I believe it’s probably somethung to do with Windows 8 (I have tried WinXP and Win7 compatibility modes), or the newer AMD Catalyst drivers.
