Confusion about new model research

New to the game. Win 10 user with both DLC packs. When I try to launch research into any of the models like SUV, Pickup Truck or sports car the research description box will just blink and the research points will stay at 0. Other topics will research as expected. This situation will occur no matter how many research offices I have built.

I have combed through doc, the forums and YouTube and have not seen a posting.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Please ignore, I found the solution. You must first develop a design center and all of the upstream requirements before you can start to research new models/designs.
