It would be good if there was more to do with global instability, controlled by things like your foreign aid budget, Obviously it would be harder for smaller countries to make a impact on these things, so there should be a way to try and control or encourage more powerful allies to do something.
The impact back home would generally speaking be, higher instability - the higher the oil price, while you could insulate yourself from this by investing in clean energy, and trying to lower the car usuage rate.
Just a thought.
