[BUG?] Missle firing behaviour

I’m not sure if this is a bug or the way the game is designed but missile’s don’t seem to be firing as quickly as they should when at range.

I’ve done some testing and if a ship that is launching missile’s while fairly close to the target they get fired and if they impact the turret they were fired from fires again as soon as it’s recharge bar gets filled. Now if it misses and the missile flys around for a bit the turret won’t fire again until the missile runs out of fuel. Also if missile’s are fired at long range the same problem occurs which can cause a missile turret to sit there and in the time it could fire off two shots only fire once instead. Considering that missile can be intercepted in addition to having lower DPS compared to beam weapons when you add this in it seems like they have too many things going against them…
