I open up GSB:GC and start a new campaign, but just after selected my race and hitting ‘new campaign,’ the game crashes, citing “Missing scenario file: …\src\SIM_Scenario.cpp 242”

what version of the game, of the campaign do you have?
If in doubt, re-downlaod and install both, to ensure they are up to date.
