Installing and Running...

I’ve actually got alot of questions to say, but i’ll try to limit to just a few.

First, on the install of the program, running has the intializing of 3d render or engine in error. Tried downloading different versions of demo, demo is the program of interest. Tried different drivers for video and sound hasnt seemed to be an issue yet at least. All of which does though seem to bring in the same issues eitherway. Honestly i dont think either is running correctly for the most part in terms of the program itself. But they do work and run with other programs just fine.

Given that the developing of the program is limited to that of only indie development. I can take the thought and interest of limitations of what it is that is considered to be usable software across different platforms to say. But of it the most though is lack of many ids of requirements to say. Rather even a Speed, or Bit/Byte Rate for what would probably be part of the main discussion of what requirements would probably be. Since mosts posts are outside the idea of something working within anything to be considered minimal or max.

Also on the run program on download, it wont download the program to run it. All saving does is save the intial exe. Instead it choose to run the exe if im not mistaken. Without any download of the file to run from. Even though had previously downloaded the file the file was suppose to be deleted. Rather that has anything to do with it not working i dont think so really, but being a pain for another reason.

So, rather you’ll have gotten any of the issues or problems fixed would probably be nice to know of anything. Even though some places say its out and others dont. All is dated though of course. That you gotta watch very carefully i guess. But it does seem that its still all within beta phase. Or trial runs. Which would be fine, but even on a idea of demo would be within all that somewhere. And of in there of something working.

The bigger companies i think that have more of a means to make more copies , but of that they still leave different versions of the software at times. Even though the latest version is the latest. All ive seemed to be able to download is just that.

Rather of it all to say that anyone place is a place of mixed consortment of what is released. And rather this is actually the company forum to post in on about any questions, concerns or comments is another as well. Some feedback im sure would be helpful to many regards.

It seems that your having trouble running the demo
What is your operating system and hardware specs

XP 2.4ghz , 256mb video card, least 1g ram.

Your specs are about the same as mine. . .
Few more questions:

  • What make is the video card (ATI etc)
  • are there any errors reported (check in My Documents\My Games\GratuitousSpaceBattles\debug) might be worth posting the error log

The error has changed within a small part of this, rather per version or not, idk specifically. Ive changed the drivers since then, but the audio issue has only been of late. Think the actual file itself hasnt really changed, but again, i dont know specifically.

Hmm, nope i am stuck - Hopefully Cliff will be able to work out what is going on.

You could try a general solution which is to delete the GratuitousSpaceBattles folder located in My Documents\My Games
It is recreated when you restart the game, if that fails you will have to post up the other error files as well to help us get an idea on what is happening.

Sorry i could not be of much assistance

On installing of the exe the program when deleted or uninstalled previouosly doesnt work. The program just seems to hang on something more then anything. And if you cant get rid of it in the first place, installing again to see what the bug report is going to show is probably not going to change very much.

So, basically put, right now. If i was going to run the exe, right. Dont have to download it anymore cause its already there. So any one problem with it is left to fix from basically running live. And its a demo. Unless you made the demo specifically as a demo for the main client program, i dont expect much to terms of software for it. The work i think would be rather pointless. But thats probably just me. Maybe if i had the full version of the release or something, but i dont. But so far the error is basically the same.

The sound is newer for whatever reason. Does anyone have a copy that works?

Like, is the release even out of beta yet? Beta/Trial release anyways.

GSB not in beta… its the finished product.

This question is confusing me. For a while I thought that you might have been referring instead to Galactic Conquest, GSB’s strategic add-on game. I still don’t entirely know, but whatever. Regardless, Gratuitous Space battles has been out of beta since autumn 2009 while GC is still very much in beta.

If so, then the log file i posted is probably the best one so far, the 3d intial has came up many of times, but the sound was new when i changed drivers. I’ll try to reinstall the ones i had to see if that fixes anything of the sound error.

The 3d doesnt seem to change much but on a number basis for whatever that stands for.

If the demo cant be fixed in someway to run, even within minimal requirements for a system to run it on, i thank ill be fine and wait. Given that basically from what i can tell the whole release is within seperate releases and requires heavy online for one as well. I’ll wait to all is out. And see if the demo can then, but probably should be fine once all the releases are out. But if anyone can get around to the demo now, ill probably check in from time to time on this thread.

The game is finished. it is not in beta. It looks like you have problematic sound card drivers. Don’t wait for any patch to the game, AFAIK you are the only person with this issue.

The intial release seemed to be finished from what i could tell, given the fact of expansion highlights, given a new one is either new or in the works. Does anyone know if the main cleint program runs the same as the demo, or is the demo it is own program?

Reading through the forums was hard telling rather it was a demo issue or whole client problem.
