[SUPPORT] [WIN7] Stuck At Gray Screen With Logo

Hey all,

I have attempted to run this game on Steam, but even after a reboot, verifying the cache and re-installing I get stuck on a gray screen with the logo. In this state I have full mouse control and can alt-tab with no issue. I have also attempted to run the game standalone via admin, but to no avail.

Is anyone able to offer assistance?

SteveArchie: Your issue is a common-ish one and easy to solve. Occurs when the game does not have permission to access its own save files (crazy right?).

Two options:

  1. Change file permissions on save folder: C:Users<username>\documents\My Games\ -> give read/write permissions to your own user profile.
  2. Run the game with administrator privileges.

paule568: Your issue is a bit different and is to do with a corrupt save file. You have two options:

  1. Delete your save game progess -> Just delete C:Users<username>\documents\My Games\Big Pharma\Saves
  2. Send me a .zip of your Saves folder and I will personally fix the files so they run for you and you don’t have to lose your progress. support@twicecircled.com

Hello,

I deleted the saves folder and ran as admin, but I am still getting the same issue. To clarify, I haven’t been able to start the game to play it. The only file present in the save folder is the global.data file.

Are there any further steps I can take?

I have the same issue.
I have tried re-installing, running as admin, making sure my entire steam folder and Documents (including “My Games”, where the log is saying it can’t access) is not read-only and then also running as admin again, all end up loading into the grey background “Big Pharma” screen.

I think the issue has to be to do with access permissions because of this line in your error:

UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "C:\Users\Shawn\Documents\My Games\Big Pharma" is denied.

A few extra questions?:

  • Did you own and play the Big Pharma beta before buying the game at full release?
  • Are you trying to play the game via Steam?

My next suggestion is to try renaming the following folder:

C:\Users\Shawn\Documents\My Games\Big Pharma

To something like “Big Pharma - old”. This is allow the game to completely recreate the folder structure. If that gets you running, you can always copy the contents of the folder back in to get your save progress back.

That’s really strange. Don’t give up Paule. Your error message is very clear what the problem is so I’m sure we can get it fixed.

In honesty I have no idea how it is even possible for the global.data save to be corrupted before you have even run the game but I should be able to fix any issue manually. Please send me your global.data file to me at support@twicecircled.com and I will work out what the issue is and send you a version that should work.

I’ve been having the same issues as Paula, and was looking over my output log and hers and i think i have the same error message. I tried the remedies that you suggested to Paula but no luck, still get stuck on the logo screen. what further steps did paula take that solved her issue that i could try?

Hi Heripal, sorry I should post this in the sticky post. There is an additional step you can take which has worked for everybody I have encountered so far. Steps below:

Download the following file (use right click and ‘Save As’):

http://www.bigpharmagame.com/_assets/support/global.data

And replace one that is currently here:

C:\users<username>\documents\My Games\Big Pharma\Saves\

Let me know if it works.
